Hebden Bridge Picture House
Hebden Bridge Picture House first opened its doors in 1921, boasting over 900 seats. Its first screening was a double bill of Torn Sails and The Iron Stair, and apart from short periods of refurbishment, it has been in use as a cinema ever since.
In 1978 a major refurbishment took place, removing half of the seats and leaving the current 492 seats with their often praised generous legroom.
Today it is a thriving cinema with evening screenings daily, matinees at weekends and every day during school holidays, and an elevenses screening every Thursday morning (with free tea and biscuits).
Live events from stand-up comedians to music, local amateur and charity events feature regularly. The Picture House cinema regularly has film-themed nights where everyone enjoys an excuse to dress up and celebrate the magic of cinema.
Hebden Bridge Picture House offers a wide ranging programme of film and live events. Screening anywhere between 16 and 26 films a month, there’s plenty to choose from. The programme ranges from mainstream to art-house and foreign language. We regularly screen specialist films and touring programmes from a range of organisations, including the British Film Institute. We also participate in festivals such as the fantastic Bradford Film Festival.
