Achingly proud to present The Captain of the Hotknives, our kid – the fabulous Joe Rybicki and local rapsters Recorded Filth. All in one gig. How nice!

Joe Rybicki was born sometime in the late 1980s, in a town somewhere near Manchester, the only child of a clogmaker and a librarian. A chance encounter with a banjo and a scratched Meat Loaf LP led to him being forever enchanted with music. His mother brought home discarded library books for him to read, which he did. The real world never quite lived up to the expectations he developed from delving into these literary realms, so he began constructing an existence in his own words.

Over the past couple of years, Joe has built up a reputation for his entertaining live performances, appearing on bills with such acts as The Holloways, Babyshambles, John Otway, The View, Littl’ans, Duels and The Indelicates.

Captain Hotknives says… “AVIN BIN A BASS PLAYER IN VARIOUS BANDS, STARTED DOIN SOLO ACOUSTIC GIGS IN 2004, SINGIN THE SONGS I USED TO PLAY IN MATES FRONT ROOMS, THEM MEKIN MORE UP AS I GOT MORE GIGS. HAVE HAD AN UNEXPECTEDLY LARGE AMOUNT OF GIGS DOING THIS. I USED TO SELL MY FIRST TWO CDZ ‘THE PIGEONS TOLD ME TO SHOPLIFT’ AND ‘BLARNEYSTONER’ AT GIGS BUT MORE OFTEN THAN NOT GAVE THEM AWAY IF PEOPLE WERE SKINT AND WANTED THEM. THANKS TO ANYONE WHO PAYED A FIVER! I AV GIVEN AWAY COUPLA THOUSAND COPIES OF THESE TWO OVER THE LAST 3-4 YEARS. GIGS AV BIN VERY VARIED, EVERYTHING FROM HOUSE PARTIES TO 30 MIN SETS SUPPORTIN BANDS TO DOIN 2 HOURS MESEN IN PUBS… GIGS AV RANGED FROM JAM PACKED PUBS OF PEOPLE PROPER LOVING IT TO PEOPLE TRYING TO START FIGHTS WI ME ONSTAGE THEN THROWIN A PINT GLASS AT ME HEAD WHEN LEAVING A VENUE. SUPPORTED PEOPLE LIKE JOHN OTWAY, CHAS N DAVE, THE SLACKERS, CRACKED ACTORS, CHRIS MURRAY, MIKE PARK, AOS3, INNER TERRESTRIALS, RANDOM HAND, THE SPLITTERS, LOS LANGEROS, LOADS O GOOD BANDS”
