Garden Street Objectors' Death Threats To Supporters
West Yorkshire Police are reported to be investigating claims that individuals and business, either involved or publicly supporting the controversial development proposal for Garden Street, have been the victims of vandalism and death threats. Broken windows, vehicles tampered with, and threatening letters are just some of the disturbing incidents which have taken place.
Todmorden Writer Releases Debut Novel
Todmorden writer L.E. Butler has just released her debut novel RELIEF with US publisher Regal Crest. Set in Venice 1912, Relief takes the reader into the Bohemian underworld of the Belle Epoque. In her debut novel, L.E. Butler draws upon her own background as a ballet dancer, her travels in Venice and Istria, and a decade of research on the era. Relief offers a love story and a mystery with a shocking twist.
Police Trouble For Labour
It has been revealed in the local press that Labour Party candidate Janet Oosthuysen has received a police caution for allegedly vandalising her ex-boyfriend’s car. Ms. Oosthuysen, a resident of Hebden Bridge, is currently awaiting confirmation from Labour’s National Executive Committee that she will replace Chris McCafferty MP, who made the decision to step down as the Labour MP for Calder Valley last year.
Community Arts Group In Crisis
The future of the Hebden Bridge community arts group HEADS appears in doubt. The organisers of the enormously successful Hebden Bridge Handmade Parade have revealed to the press that their application for funding from Arts Council, England has been rejected, putting them in financial crisis. The trustees of the group have suggested their resources may run dry by early Autumn. Lee Comer, Chair of the board of trustees, is quoted in the Hebden Bridge Times as saying: “About two or three days before the parade we found out that we weren’t going to get funding on the basis that we had before. There is simply not enough grant money from the Arts Council, England, to go around to all the organisations.”
Candle 4 Tibet Vigil
Hebden Bridge Tibet support group, LOVE 4 TIBET, will be holding a peaceful, candle-lit vigil on the eve of the Beijing Olympics. Please join us in Hebden Bridge Square between 8.30-9.00pm. 1000’s of similar candle vigils are taking place around the world, to keep alive the flame of hope for Human Rights for Tibet.
