Swimming Pool Plans For Brighouse & Sowerby Bridge
New leisure facilities for neighbouring Brighouse and Sowerby Bridge have taken a step closer to reality. Although still subject to Cabinet approval, a comprehensive business plan has shown that they can be built at no additional cost to council tax payers. In addition, customers will pay no more to use them.
Local Puppet Company Performing At Square Chapel
Hebden Bridge-based visual theatre company, Thingumajig Theatre, who co-produced the fabulously successful Hebden Bridge Handmade Parade earlier this year, will conclude their 2-month national tour of their play, “A November Day” with two performances at the Square Chapel Centre for the Arts, Halifax. Sunday, 30 Nov. at 2:30pm and Monday, 1 Dec. at 10:30am.
Funding For Flood Prevention In Calderdale
Calderdale Councillors are to look at funding options to implement measures which could help reduce future flooding in the district. Members of the Regeneration and Development Scrutiny Panel will meet on Wednesday, November 26th to discuss the costs in detail and how they could be met. Early estimates suggest annual revenue costs of £247,000, with capital costs of between £75,000 and £275,000, each year for five years.
Suspicion Mounts Over Missing Swimming Pool Funds
Several residents of Hebden Bridge are becoming increasingly concerned over the whereabouts of massive sums of money supposedly being held in trust by Hebden Royd & District Swimming Pool Association, and intended to fund the building of a new community swimming pool in the town. And rumours of massive accounting irregularites suggest that as much as £500,000 could have disappeared from a total of approximately £885,000 raised by the sale of land to Richardson Developments.
Heritage Lottery Fund Support For The South Pennines
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has today announced an earmarked awards totalling £3,170,000 made through its Landscape Partnership Scheme for Sefton Coast and the South Pennines. The HLF rural regeneration and landscape conservation Landscape Partnership Schemes highlight the diversity of the UK’s geography and its impact on our culture.
Todmorden Writer's Debut Novel Receives Praise

Police Drugs Raids Across The Upper Valley
Two police raids in the Hebden Bridge and Todmorden areas have seen dozens of suspected cannabis plants seized, and the arrest of three men. Following information discovered by police, a team of officers searched a house in the Callis Wood area of Hebden Bridge on Monday 27th October, resulting in the seizure of scores of plants which have now been sent for analysis by forensic experts.
No Suspicious Circumstances In Local Woman's Death
Police investigations into the recent discovery of a woman’s body in the River Calder at Hebden Bridge, have concluded that her death was not suspicious. Mother of three young children, 41 year-old Sarah Kryeziu was found face down in the river on Monday 27th October at approximately 9am.
