The former mayor of Calderdale Chris O’Conner, has decided not to run for election in the Calder Valley constituency, choosing to focus his attention on regaining a seat on Calderdale Council in the forthcoming council elections.
Previously a Conservative councillor in Hipperholme, Mr O’Connor had put himself forward as an independent general election candidate for the Calder Valley, and was one of the panelists at a ‘Question Time’ style election debate in Lightcliffe last month.
Mr O’Connor will now be standing against Labour’s Bob Metcalfe in the May 2010 council elections.
