Calderdale Meeting To Discuss Carbon Emissions
Members of the Economy and Environment Scrutiny Panel are meeting to discuss the work undertaken to reduce carbon emissions on Wednesday (21st April). In October 2009 the Council added their name to a public list as a pledge of their commitment to achieve a 10% cut in carbon emissions in 2010, based on the national ‘10:10’ initiative.
An energy audit has been undertaken to look at ways in which the Council can cut carbon emissions and invest in the future.
The Council has been working to identify which of its buildings account for most CO2 emissions.
Once this work is complete it will be easier for the Council to reduce the impact it has on the environment.
It is expected that once this audit is completed a full, costed action plan will be presented to Cabinet.
Scrutiny Chair, Economy and Environment, Councillor Coles says:
“I am pleased we are part of a national initiative to improve our environment and work continues to identify ways we can make this commitment.
“This is one of the first steps in making Calderdale a cleaner, greener Council.”
Anyone is welcome to attend the Scrutiny Panel meeting on Wednesday 21st April at 6.00pm in Halifax Town Hall.
