Calderdale Recognises Importance Of Rail Links
Calderdale’s Liberal Democrat councillors have today echoed the importance of the Caldervale rail line through the borough and the need for investment in it, and have highlighted the importance of getting the basics right in improving the quality of the service.
The Liberal Democrat Group’s transport spokesperson, Cllr Nader Fekri (Calder) told us: “It may seem obvious, but we need trains to stop regularly and frequently at local stations – unfortunately this does not always happen at the moment. We also need improvements in the number and condition of the rolling stock”.
“The price of tickets, especially for people whose journeys take them out of West Yorkshire into Manchester or Lancashire, is also something that needs looking into. At present such journeys can prove extremely expensive”.
“It is only by investing in public transport that we will achieve a reduction in the use of private cars and bring about real improvements in the environment such as reduced air pollution”, said Cllr Fekri.
