Calderdale Schools Join Seatbelt Campaign

People across Calderdale will be pledging their support for wearing seatbelts and mock crash scenes will be staged in public as part of the Yellow Ribbon campaign this month.

On Thursday 21st May, Calderdale schools will be tying yellow ribbons to school railings, as a sign of their promise to wear their seatbelts for ‘those I love’ and ‘those that love me’.

There will also be a demonstration of the effects of not wearing a seatbelt at the Yellow Ribbon event. At 1pm on Thursday 21st May, a mock crash scene will be staged at Conway Street, off Parkinson Lane, Halifax. Fire, police and ambulance services will demonstrate how they deal with a car crash involving injured passengers.

The accident will involve two cars and will show the consequences of not wearing a seatbelt. Anyone is welcome to come and talk to the various services taking part.

The day is being held as part of Calderdale’s ongoing bid to encourage passengers to always wear seat belts.

The campaign will continue on Friday 29th May, as part of Calderdale Neighbours Day at the Piece Hall, Halifax. Parents and children will be asked to promise to wear their seat belts for the ones they love, and their yellow ribbons will be tied to the railings in the Piece Hall. On the same day, another mock crash scene will be staged at the Woolshops, Halifax, where fire, police and ambulance services will demonstrate how they sometimes have to cut people out of vehicles after an accident. Again, people are welcome to go along and ask questions.
