Chancellor Provides £300k Toward Calderdale's Road Repairs
Labour’s Calder Valley Parliamentary Candidate, Steph Booth, has welcomed news announced in last week’s Budget that £323,900 has been awarded to Calderdale to repair pothole damage and help with road maintenance.
In recognition of the severe winter, an extra £100 million of funding was announced by the Chancellor for local authorities and Mrs Booth said the one-off payment for Calderdale would help address serious road problems that the Council was failing to get to grips with.
“David Cameron has often said if you want to know what a Conservative Government would look like then look to our Councils. If that’s the case then Calderdale Council offers a vision of despair.”
“Our Council made the wrong calls this winter,” she said. “They reduced the gritting budget and caused mayhem and now they are not tackling potholes and causing anguish to motorists. David Cameron has often said if you want to know what a Conservative Government would look like then look to our Councils. If that’s the case then Calderdale Council offers a vision of despair.”
Adding that the extra money was another example of the continued support being offered by the Government to help Calderdale emerge from recession, she said Tory plans to immediately make deep cuts would threaten our recovery.
“Although we’re emerging from recession our economy still faces a lot of uncertainty and it will be a bumpy ride ahead until we get back to full recovery. That’s why it’s so important we continue to invest in vital public infrastructure and make sure our roads are in the best possible condition before next winter. In every sense we are committed to making the road ahead as smooth as possible during what is a difficult time for our economy.”
