Creative Courses At Northlight Studios

Many of those interested in finding their creative sides have already discovered ‘The Back Door’ at Northlight Art Studios. Having launched their new education programme last September the enterprising artist cooperative are now offering a third term of exciting courses with some notable additions.

New for April will be ‘Paper Arts and Assemblage’ – a course run by artist Kate Boyce. Kate has become well known in the region for her innovative mix of painting and photography and print. In this course, she will divulge some of the secrets of her technique through a series of short 2D and 3D projects. The course will give the opportunity to combine images and text, personal effects and found objects, using a broad range of media.

Also starting after Easter is a Weaving course run by local weaver Janet Clark. This course will give an excellent foundation for those wanting to get started with this craft as well as a regular opportunity to practice making a woven work of art. Janet is a mine of information and will advise on all matters technical and aesthetic. The course will look at the work of other weavers and will encourage both traditional and more contemporary approaches.

Alongside these new courses will be the now familiar regular courses that welcome newcomers to their ranks. The ‘Art for the Terrified’ continues to attract those who need that the support to boost their confidence. Mary Loney, the course tutor is now very pleased to report that there are now considerably fewer terrified artists around in Hebden Bridge! Other courses that are set to continue are Perri Webster’s structured approach to Painting and Drawing, Helen Hayman’s Bookbinding, Rachel Johns’ Creative Textiles and Linda Marshall-Griffiths’ Writing for the Stage.

The new term of courses will kick off on 20th April . The ‘Back Door’ philosophy is to maintain small informal groups ensuring a high level of tuition and attention, so early booking is essential.

Full details of all the times, fees and booking arrangements can be found on the studio’s website www.northlightstudio.co.uk, by emailing info@northlightstudio.co.uk or phoning 01422 843519.
