The Stubbing Wharf Apple Day October 2009

The Stubbing Wharf is holding its annual Apple Day on Saturday 24th October 2009, when landlord Matt Browne invites you to come and celebrate the apple!

As well as an array of apple juices and traditionally-crafted real ciders, visitors will have the opportunity to squeeze the juice from their own apples using the Stubbing’s own traditional oak apple press. And, as Phil Kennedy the event’s organiser puts it, ‘taste the fruits of your own endeavours; you can even take your own pressed juice home to ferment into cider, which should be ready by Christmas!’

“I like apples, so I’ll probably like cider!” said one eager guest at last year’s Apple Day.

The Stubbing’s experience with its own annual International Cider Festival ensures there will be a good selection of traditional, real and fruit enhanced ciders from UK craft producers, and overseas cidermakers too, at the well-stocked cider bar. The International Cider Festival continues to get bigger and better each year, and likewise the Apple Day is attracting a growing following. With the Stubbing Wharf’s reputation for its food locally and with 30-minute scenic and informative boat trips from Stubbing Wharf Cruises, there is plenty to make it a great day out.

Cidermaking classes
Is it possible to make cider on a small scale? Yes it is, so why not enroll in the cidermaking workshop and find out how you can make your own cider at home! Renowned cidermaker and author Mike Pooley will be providing practical instruction and exploring traditional and modern approaches to cidermaking. You can reserve your place in advance by calling Phil Kennedy on 07966 808717.

The Stubbing Wharf is located off the A646 on the west side of Hebden Bridge, sandwiched between the River Calder and the Rochdale Canal. If you are in the car, there is our free ample car park. Or if you are on the bus, numbers 590 592 594 stop close by. By train or by foot, The Stubbing Wharf is a short walk along the canal towpath after lock 11.
