Helping Hand For Calderdale's Young People

Young People in Calderdale are to be giving a helping hand in today’s very competitive job market. Those aged 16 to 19 and who are currently not in education, training or employment are being given the opportunity to meet with organisations who can help them to increase their skills, knowledge and qualifications.

Calderdale Council and Calderdale & Kirklees Careers are teaming up with partners from training organisations, educational establishments, the voluntary sector and specialist projects. They will offer short and long term help to young people who want to make the most of the opportunities available.

The events, named Sort It, are taking place on:

Tuesday 29th September at Queens Road Neighbourhood Centre, Queens Road 11.00am – 4.00pm

Wednesday 30th September at Forest Cottage Community Centre, Cousin Lane, Illingworth 11.00am – 4.00pm

Councillor Craig Whittaker, portfolio holder for Children and Young People, said:

“There are around 500 young people in this age range in Calderdale who could potentially benefit from these events.

“It is a Calderdale Council priority to ensure young people flourish. These events will improve their chances of finding employment in the current climate.

“This is a good opportunity for young people to find out what’s available, talk to people who can help, and find out about other services for young people. I hope young people take the opportunity and come along to these events.”

Fay McIntosh of Calderdale & Kirklees Careers said:

“This is a brilliant opportunity for young people and their parents/carers to meet with education, employment and training providers who have current vacancies”.
