May Day Craft Fun At Shibden Hall
Shibden Hall is set for a busy May Day on 3rd May, thanks to a successful appeal for talented craftspeople to show off their skills. The estate will host a range of craft demonstrations including blacksmithing, stone carving, rag rugging, pole lathing and many more traditional local crafts.
May Day has traditionally been a day of folk activities at Shibden, and you can also get involved in building a Green Man, mask making and the ever popular Pace Egg play.
This year, the popular folk museum will be opened up free of charge for the day and craftspeople will be on hand to explain their trades.
Claire Selby, Social History Curator for Calderdale, said:
“One of the important factors about the museum is to enable people to understand more about our traditional crafts and how objects that we all use and take for granted, such as wheels, barrels and metal work were made. We will be inviting members of the public to tell us what they most enjoy about the museum and make suggestions for improvements, so that the museum can continue to develop and be of interest to current and future generations.”
The event runs from 1pm on May Day and the folk museum will be open from 10am free of charge. If you would like more information, please phone Shibden Hall on 01422 352246.
