NUJ No Confidence In Johnston Press
Johnston Press, the publisher’s of several of Calderdale’s local newspaper titles has recently been in the news. In his article in The Guardian on August 18th 2008, Roy Greenslade informs us that National Union of Journalists (NUJ) representatives from their main publishing centres have unanimously backed a motion of no confidence in the company’s senior management.
In his article, Mr. Greenslade goes on to illustrate the problems facing Johnston Press, with advertising revenue on the wane, and a share price that has also fallen considerably from last year’s 393p to 58.50p on August 18th 2008, it seems that something has to give other than the company’s profit margins. And with debts built up during a vigorous period of acquisitions only compounding the problem, the Edinburgh based company’s financial situation is described as “parious”.
