No Place Like Home In Calderdale
Calderdale Council’s Leader, Cllr. Stephen Baines, has welcomed the results of the 2008 Place Survey, but says the Council must continue to deliver on its promises, and involve local people if customer satisfaction is to improve.
The survey shows that almost 80% of people are satisfied with their area as a place to live. This figure has risen since 2006.
The survey also confirms that residents in Calderdale remain satisfied with the large majority of Council services. Across the country there has been a substantial national decline in satisfaction with council services since 2006. Some services in Calderdale do have disappointing results, but good progress has been made since the survey was carried out.
Cllr. Baines says: “This year we have delivered on our promise to keep Council Tax to a minimum, brought in new and improved waste collection arrangements to help local people recycle more than ever, begun work on new leisure facilities in the Borough and embarked on much needed improvements to Halifax Town Centre for the benefit of all the people of Calderdale.”
Cllr Baines acknowledged that while improvements had been made, there was more to do; local people must be given the chance to have their say on the kind of services they want the Council and its partners to offer. He adds
“We want local people more involved in shaping our services in the future. We know that this means providing the right opportunities for people to get involved in a way that suits them. In Calderdale, everyone is different and everyone matters.”
A further survey is due to be run in autumn 2010.
