Police Trouble For Labour

Janet Oosthuysen

It has been revealed in the local press that Labour Party candidate Janet Oosthuysen has received a police caution for allegedly vandalising her ex-boyfriend’s car. Ms. Oosthuysen, a resident of Hebden Bridge, is currently awaiting confirmation from Labour’s National Executive Committee that she will replace Chris McCafferty MP, who made the decision to step down as the Labour MP for Calder Valley last year.

It is unclear quite how this might affect Ms. Oosthuysen’s chances of becoming the new Labour MP for Calder Valley, however, a spokesperson for the Yorkshire and the Humber Labour Party is quoted in The Hebden Bridge Times as saying: “I would not want anyone to think that Labour does not take police matters seriously but it is not something we are taking up seriously as an issue.” The spokesperson made no comment on how Labour’s National Executive Committee might view this particular incident.

Ms. Oosthuysen is also quoted in The Hebden Bridge Times as saying: “The end of this relationship was a very difficult part of my life.” and “I genuinely regret it, but everyone makes mistakes.”
