Revised Plans For Garden Street
Following criticism from a number of local residents, a revised planning application has been submitted by the developer Hebden Royd Development LLP, for their redevelopment proposal at Garden Street Hebden Bridge. Praised by many as an innovative and attractive solution to a problem site, concerns had been raised by others regarding the scheme’s impact on the Conservation Area.
A three day exhibition of the revised scheme was displayed opposite Hebden Royd council offices, and David Fletcher of Hebden Royd Development LLP was present at the opening to answer questions, and confidently reassure those concerned that the proposal would bring untold benefits to the town.
Details of the revised proposal reveal an increase in the provision of parking spaces, bringing the total to 160, and perhaps more importantly, 10 per cent of the 48 residential units will be designated as affordable social housing. The scheme also features eight small retail units and eight starter enterprise units. Two-thirds of the scheme will be given over to landscaped pedestrian open space, offering a massive improvement on the present visual amenity of the Garden Street site. The overall design has been refined, and the developer has produced a scale model and more detailed drawings which demonstrate how the development will both compliment and enhance the character of the town.
These revised plans for Garden Street will be subject to a three week consultation period before being put to the Planning Committee later in the year.
