Shibden Hall marks 75 years since it opened

Shibden Hall will celebrate in true 1930s style next week to mark 75 years since it opened to the public as a museum. Get a peek into the Shibden archives, enjoy a packed afternoon of 1930s music, dancing, vehicles and costume and record your memories of Shibden in days gone by.

Thursday 4th June is the 75th anniversary of Shibden Hall as a public museum. From 2pm to 4pm, Pat Sewell of West Yorkshire Archive Service will be offering a peek into the Shibden archives and the people who lived at Shibden – including a chance to find out about Anne Lister’s diaries. Included in the usual admission price to the hall, but booking is essential – phone 01422 352246. Light refreshments included.

Celebrations continue on Saturday 6th June, with a 1930s-themed garden party from noon until 4pm. Vintage vehicles will be on display and there will be 1930s songs and a swing band. Get in the swing with dancing lessons or try traditional games on the terrace. Wear a 1930s outfit and join the fun!

Entry to the hall and events will be free for the day and strawberries and cream will be on sale in the cafe. People are encouraged to recall their memories of Shibden from times gone by and record these in the comfort of the 1930s sitting room.

For details of more events planned as part of the 75 year celebrations, visit www.calderdale.gov.uk or pick up a leaflet at your local library or museum.
