Tackling Anti Social Behaviour In Calderdale
Over 60 people came together at a summit earlier this week to agree a plan of action to reduce anti-social behaviour in Calderdale over the next year.
Evidence suggests that anti social behaviour is one of the greatest issues of concern to those who live and work in Calderdale. While progress is being made, the summit was a chance for key figures in the community to come together and discuss the best ways of reducing anti social behaviour.
Divisional Commander of West Yorkshire Police, Chief Superintendent Alan Ford, said:
“Surveys tell us that 7 out of 10 people think we do a good job in tackling anti-social behaviour, this is pleasing but not good enough for us. We need to address this and ensure the public are totally confident and satisfied that we are doing everything we can to stop anti social behaviour.”
Calderdale Council, the police, the Youth Offending Team and Pennine Housing are all working together to combine their knowledge and skills to deal with anti social behaviour. This will also increase the sharing of information so they can work together on cases and ensure they meet the needs of the victims quicker and more appropriately.
Following talks from key figures of the Safer and Stronger Communities Partnership, the summit used an ‘open space method’ to arrange people from different sectors into groups so they could discuss and develop a set of commitments.
At the end of the summit, ideas were brought together to produce key priorities and actions for the future.
Portfolio Holder and Co-Chair for Safer and Stronger Communities, Councillor Cooper said:
“We are determined to come together in tackling the problem of anti social behaviour in Calderdale. Everybody here has the passion and responsibility in their roles and by combining our expertise we can drive forward and really make a change.”
