Teenager Loses Life At Widdop Reservoir
A 17-year-old boy from London lost his life yesterday (1st July) at Widdop reservoir near Hebden Bridge, in what has been described by West Yorkshire Police as a tragic accident.
The teenager was among friends visiting Hebden Bridge on a trip, and had gone swimming in the reservoir. His friends lost sight of him at approximately 1.30pm and alerted the emergency services. The West Yorkshire Police underwater search unit was called out and recovered the teenager’s body.
West Yorkshire Police urged the public to be extremely careful around reservoirs. The very cold and deep water can cause even strong swimmers to get into difficulty very easily, and their remote locations mean the chances of rescue are much reduced.
