Teenagers Make Their Mark On New Library

Teenagers will be putting their own stamp on the new Hebden Bridge library at a graffiti workshop this Saturday. They will produce a large graffiti board which will go on display in the new teenage area when the library opens next month.

The workshop will take place from 10am to 3pm on Saturday 28th February and 15 students from Calder High School will learn about the history of graffiti, art techniques, legalities and health and safety issues. It is being run by arts organisation Just Addictive Music. Journalists and photographers are welcome to attend.

The library is due to open in March and will feature a colourful and cosy children’s area and a separate teenage area with a comfy sofa, listening post and a 52-inch flat screen TV.

There will also be comfortable seating and a coffee area, toilets and baby changing on the ground floor, and a lift to the upper floor. The Customer First office will also be housed in the library, offering face-to-face advice and information about Council services.

Councillor Ian Cooper, CMBC community services portfolio holder, said:-

“The new library will cater for all ages and sections of the community. By inviting young people to the workshop, and providing a special ‘teenage area’, we want to encourage them to take ownership and use the library alongside the rest of the community.”
