Workwise Is Working For Calderdale
Workwise is an employment support service within Calderdale Council providing advice and guidance on employment and training to individuals with disabilities and health conditions.
Calderdale resident David Denham approached Workwise for advice in gaining employment. David is a young man with Autism who has been part of the Workstep programme for a number of years.
David’s parents recognise how Workwise have helped David gain and maintain employment.
Neil Denham, David’s dad; “David’s confidence and sense of independence have enhanced greatly as a result of his employment at the hospital and we have noticed a big difference in David’s communication skills.
“We cannot thank all the staff he works with enough. David looks forward to everyday at work and complains when he has to take a holiday! All this is down to the brilliant efforts of Lorraine Fenney and the Workwise team.”
ISS Mediclean employ David Denham in the post room. Recently David has been identified and awarded by his employer’s as someone who is doing exemplary work.
Tracy Rawcliffe, Operations Manager ISS Mediclean, Calderdale Royal Hospital; “David was nominated by Catalyst Healthcare Ltd who recognises David’s exemplary dedication to ensuring the efficient dispersal of all hospital post and his overall outstanding contribution to the service. David is a popular team member who is well known throughout the site, he is extremely diligent and committed to his role”
Workwise offer advice and extra support until personal goals are achieved and they remain totally independent whilst working closely with the employee and the employer.
Lorraine Fenney, Calderdale Council Young Persons Employment Advisor, Workwise; “This award illustrates and recognises what commitment and dedication David shows to his job. It also highlights how Workwise interacts successfully with local employers in helping people with disabilities find and sustain employment.”
Councillor Amanda Byrne, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Development, Calderdale MBC; “The challenge for Calderdale at present is to continue growing a culture of enterprise. It is important that relationships between employers and employment services are encouraged so that young people are given the skills they need to contribute to, and succeed in the workplace, and product innovation is enhanced.”
